Happy birthday, Izzy! I laughed at the gritty icing sugar (such a me thing to do!) and nodded along to the existential crisis, and the phrase "the point is, they needed to come home with me." I suspect many of us have our own version of sari silk scraps, unnecessary but completely essential purchases or squirrelings that remind us who we are and soothe us when we are in a questioning all the things phase! It's reassuring to be reminded that even people who seem very grounded and creatively certain from the outside occasionally get walloped around the chops by doubt. Wishing you a year filled with beautiful cloth, accidental adventures and all the good things :)
Happy happy birthday dear Izzy - what a fabulous haul of colourful and magnificent fabrics that "needed to come home" with you! hahahaha that cracked me up and I fully understand exactly that thought (also ditto for the Muji gel pens...!?)
If ever cake and fabric scraps fail to help with a potential future funk - don't hesitate to drop me a line. I can almost 100% guarantee you'd be right as rain (reign?? now I can't even think what the expression really means? Surely "right as sunshine" or "right as a rainbow" would be more technically appropriate? ) anyway, hit me up if you ever need cheering up. xxxx Claire
Oh goodness, a fellow Leslie Gore fan??! That album was my first music purchase and I still know the words to every song. Am home once again and catching up on emails...happy belated birthday! Your new fabric finds are gorgeous and I'm glad the country was celebrating your special outing 😂🎂
Happy Birthday Izzy! Sounds like the time out with family did you a world of good. I love a parade myself, of course we don’t have a king here to ride by in a carriage, but we have the horses and bands, usually some flowers, classics/antique cars, and fire trucks whooping their sirens! I was amazed at how relatively lax security seemed for His Highness. The carriage didn’t look particularly bullet proof, nor did I see the British equivalent of Secret Service men and women trotting along side. Anyway, the indigo and silks looked luscious!
Thanks Nancy! It was fun. Yes, we were thinking that ourselves about the security vs the US. It’s all pretty calm and low-key, considering…the security is definitely there, but not obviously so! There were a few large cars cruising up behind his maj, and marines posted all along the inside of the barriers, each with a very large rifle - they were facing towards the parade - and a very heavily armed police officer was only a few metres away from us, he was facing the crowd: automatic weapon, side arm, bullet proof vest…there would have been more of him at intervals, too. And mounted police clip-clopping around. Oh, and all the soldiers on horseback or on foot had weapons, even if for some it was just a ceremonial sword!
Happy Birthday!! Don’t think of the numbers just enjoy the day. And you had a brilliant day with surprises and goodies to bring home and gaze at for many days after. These are the sort of days that we all love. Wish I’d been there!! 😂
That sounds like a wonderful day, even with the "unplanned" or not royal inclusions. The fabulous fabric findings definitely make the day. And we all need to have some fabric candy in our lives. Happy Birthday!
