What a thought provoking essay Izzy and you’re so right. I’m loving sewing now that I have retired, but I still procrastinate. At first I was worried I wouldn’t sew well (as if I didn’t know practice makes perfect). But I am sewing well enough, but I still think of 14 things I need to do before I sew, every day! Your insights into the whys of some of this are very thought provoking. Have done a some mental health research and review of my childhood (definitely not the story book childhood—but really, who does have that?). It’s amazing the ah ha moments: So that may be the reason I do this or that. It does seem to help to understand the repercussions. While it may not fix it, it gives me room to give myself a little grace. Thank you for writing your musings Izzy, I thoroughly enjoy them. Btw, I love felt pens too! (Especially since I’m no longer in design school with a prof standing over my shoulder telling me I’m not doing it right.🙄)
Thank you Nancy, I’m glad you enjoyed it. It’s crazy what an influence our early years have, without realising until much later on. Giving ourselves grace can be a difficult thing to learn, but it’s never too late - and it’s never too late to play with felt pens!
I do enjoy your writing... I am absolutely in favour of felt pens all day for any who feel so driven. Myself I find that I am absolutely certain about felt pens one day, and absolutely certain about something entirely different the next!
You are not alone in your thoughts. I appreciate you sharing. Thank you and please keep writing. And love your art, gorgeous.
Thank you LeeAnne, I appreciate that 🙏
Thank you for sharing, your words certainly chime with my experience.
Thanks Maureen.
Such eloquence and power in these words Izzy. This essay has definitely got me thinking...
Ah, thank you Jodie.
